Hello again, how has your week been? If you are popping by and taking the time to read this post, please leave a hello in the comments, I’d love to hear from you.
This past week I have been focusing in on assessing exactly where I am in this art journey and where I would like to be. As I have been looking at the in-between place that I feel that I am I came across a fantastic blog by Clara Lieu called The Art Professor. Clara gives a lot of generous advice on everything from how to use social media when establishing an online art presence to the way we can present ourselves to galleries (and the best career point in which to start doing this). Between Clara’s advice and the advice found in ‘Steal Like an Artist’ by Austin Kleon as well as advice given by the amazing artist Cedar Lee on you tube, I have been able to figure out small steps in how to move forward.
As a result of combining the advice from these three sources I created an action plan chart for myself:
I took active steps this week to update and open as many social media accounts as I thought necessary including:
Google+, Tumblr, Pinterest, Linkedin, Etsy, Twitter, Redbubble and Facebook
I have left off the links to a couple of them as I am still setting those up properly. I also still have my ArtFido account and plan to open a couple of others in the future.
After all that planning I got painting again, here are some of the pieces I worked on this past week:
Another large task I undertook this week was to attempt to photograph my work properly. I wouldn’t say that I’m very competent with a proper camera, I don’t understand the settings really but I do have a fantastic friend who is a professional photographer. Amy gave me a lot of help and is even cleaning up my photos for me a bit! I will share some of the photos when they are ready but here’s a couple of shots from my little photo-shoot:
That one above was taken with my iphone through the lens of my camera.
I did start another work this week which is following along a similar line as the self-portrait above. Its just in the beginning stages:
So, all in all I did get a lot done in the past week. I didn’t so much visit any galleries but I feel as if I’m edging my way along the path slowly.
