This past week there has been a smaller amount of painting and a bit more time spent thinking through some of the deeper aspects of being an artist. I won’t go into them here but I have spent some quality time thinking, writing, reading and praying which has been of great benefit to my art practice. Last week I had some time in the studio I finished one and started on a second floral still life which is up to this point so far:
I’ve loved using these colours and its been a good thing to stretch myself from my usual painting subjects.
On the weekend we were able to go along to this years Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi. This is our third year in a row here (although we went quite a few times back in Perth too). Here are a few of my fav’s from the visit:
I love going along although I do prefer during the week as the crowds on the weekend are crazy.
I have a friend visiting from Perth at the moment so I have purposely spent no time in the studio but we did go to Madame Tussauds yesterday and had a lot of fun. The wax models are artworks in themselves, here’s a fave from there:
I was also able to run the Create Art Group at our church on Monday morning. This week we continued to look at ‘line’ and the various ways it can be used. I had the attendees do some 3 minute sketches as well as an exercise which involved not taking the pencil off the paper. Its been great so far and I’ve enjoyed teaching quite a lot.
That’s all on the trail for this week, I think a visit to the Art Gallery of NSW might be in order between now and my next post as there is a Pop Art exhibition on there right now.
